Most Used Brushes
I’m excited to finally share my Most Used Brushes along with the Step-by-Step in how I use them.
First, I use one sketching brush by @genevievesdesignstudio that I duplicated. In one sketching brush, the stability setting is increased to help with smooth lines/outlining. The lower stability brush is used for filling in.
Then, using clipping masks (and organized layers), I focus on shading, lighting and adding texture. For shading/contouring the face, my favorite brush is by @rochewoodworthillustration called the RW Inky Painter Brush. I modified this brush to be tapered at the ends for more precise face shadowing but I love the original brush for painting on leaves or landscapes. The Dry Shader 3 brush from Jaein Studio Illustration on Etsy is one of my favorite texture brushes - reducing the opacity makes it very easy to layer on the texture. Lastly, I use the free 6B Pencil from Procreate to get that really yummy textured pencil look. Key for me in all of these steps is having a really good buffer brush - I use the free Stucco brush by Procreate & it allows me to buff each of these detail brushes out so I get the exact effect I’m going for.
Next, I move on to hair. Again, the RW Inky Paint Brush is my favorite for shading but most of my detail work on hair is accomplished by using the Fuzzy Pencil Brush by @jingsketch.
Finally, I add extra details like freckles with the freckle brush and more shadow texture with the Shader 1 brush by @genevievesdesignstudio, RW Textured Multiply Brush by @rochewoodworthillustration and final lighting details with the free gloaming brush by Procreate.
Hope that’s helpful!
